On Wednesday 29th January 2025, Cohort 1 successfully concluded their 10-week EnterpriseTECH journey at the Judge Business School with an ETech Pitch Night. Designed for STEM researchers or professionals with an interest in entrepreneurship, our students learnt core aspects of entrepreneurship, innovative problem-solving, strategic market navigation, and value creation.
The cohort was divided into 2 groups of 5, each working with the inventor of a new technology concept to advance the early-stage business idea. This collaborative environment harnessed the collective strengths of each team, fostering creativity, shared learning, and mutual support as they explored their entrepreneurial potential together. The 2 projects were:
- Emissions Estimation: Automating supply chain emissions estimates with explainable machine learning.
- SenseBuilding: Designing resilient buildings through data-informed strategies.

The Emissions Estimation team worked with Dr. Luke Cullen, a postdoctoral researcher in Climate Compatible Growth, to provide business insights and future recommendations for his spin-out company, Just Decarbonise. Over the course of the EnterpriseTECH program, the FIBE3 team completed market research under the guidance of supervisor Stephanie Richards to produce detailed and useful recommendations for Just Decarbonise’s future growth. Just Decarbonise is a tool which makes use of explainable AI to deliver efficient and accurate carbon emission estimations for use in supply chains. The FIBE3 team made use of their background in climate and emissions mitigation to more effectively assess Just Decarbonise’s implementation in the market.
“Working with Luke and with Just Decarbonise was a really rewarding experience – it was inspiring to see his passion for the idea and how that can translate into plans for a viable company.” – Bella Nesti, Cohort 1
During the 10-week course, Cohort 1 accomplished the following objectives for their projects:
- Researched and evaluated the commercial potential of real-world technologies;
- Developed and delivered convincing funding pitches for their inventors' technology concepts;
- Created engaging video marketing content for their projects.
“The EnterpriseTECH programme has been a great opportunity for us to acquaint ourselves with the world of entrepreneurship, covering many aspects of what we need to be aware of. Particularly for us FIBE3 students aiming to make a difference with net-zero solutions, it is important to know what the next stages might be to reach a wider audience for our research.” - Felix Baker, FIBE3 Cohort 1 student
