Our third CM1 speaker was Alex Winchester, from Milestone Infrastructure, who gave a talk on “AI Digitisation and Data for Net Zero”, from within the Highways Sector. After stressing the importance of acknowledging some of the challenges of putting theory into practice in the highly regulated construction industry, Alex highlighted the many areas where technology can help the sector in its net zero journey… such as measuring and predicting the carbon intensity of construction activities and assisting in smart decision making when assessing the need for infrastructure. He talked about areas where Milestone is already employing AI technology and revealed an exciting new project that they are currently working on with Devon County Council - to build the UK’s first carbon negative stretch of highway!
