Our fifth CM1 lecture, delivered by Ed Godsiffe from Milestone Infrastructure, delved into how radical circularity and a whole-life approach can extend the lifespan of the UK’s highway network. The session showcased innovative solutions aimed at maximising material reuse, reducing costs and carbon emissions, and enhancing climate resilience.
Key topics included an overview of the UK highways sector, the ambitions of clients and contractors, and the challenges and opportunities they face. Strategies for adapting to a changing climate and insights from the Live LABS2 project were also explored. Circularity case studies highlighted cutting-edge designs, materials, and practices driving sustainability in both current and future projects. Ed also tackled the critical question: Where can we be more radical?
The lively discussion during and after the lecture offered valuable insights and perspectives for our students.
